Medicare Plans in Massachusetts

Turning 65 — or already on Medicare and reviewing your options — comes with a lot of choices. As an independent Medicare broker serving Massachusetts, Wilson Advisory Group helps you cut through the noise and pick a plan that actually fits your doctors, prescriptions, and budget.

We work with all the major carriers offered in Massachusetts, so we can compare plans across the market rather than push you toward a single company’s products. Our job is to give you a clear, honest comparison and let you decide.

The Parts of Medicare

Original Medicare includes two parts: Part A (hospital coverage) and Part B (medical coverage). Most people get Part A premium-free if they’ve worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years. Part B has a standard monthly premium set by Medicare each year.

Original Medicare alone has gaps. To fill them, most Massachusetts beneficiaries choose one of two paths: a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan paired with a standalone Part D prescription drug plan, or a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan that bundles hospital, medical, and usually prescription coverage into one package.

Medicare Advantage vs. Medigap

This is the central decision for most people. Medicare Advantage plans often have lower premiums and built-in extras like dental, vision, and gym memberships, but they use provider networks. Medigap plans cost more in premium but pair with Original Medicare’s wide acceptance and predictable out-of-pocket costs. Neither is universally better — it depends on your doctors, prescriptions, travel habits, and risk tolerance.

We’ll walk you through the trade-offs based on your specific situation. We don’t push one direction; we help you understand both.

Enrollment Windows

Medicare has strict enrollment periods. Your Initial Enrollment Period runs for seven months around your 65th birthday. The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7 each year — that’s when current beneficiaries can change plans for the following year. Miss an enrollment window and you can face permanent late penalties, so timing matters.
